Sorry we haven't posted garden updates lately, it's been a busy time for us this year. However, the gardening never stopped! We have several crops under row covers that are growing into the winter. Lets see... we have carrots, sprouting broccoli, cabbage, spinach, and lettuce out there. The broccoli is growing VERY slow but is starting to sprout! All crops had to be planted before the cold weather set in so they got mostly mature before the cold and shorter sunlight. So, basically in the middle of the summer or early fall they were planted.
In the photo above, our trouble area is the back left since, in the winter, the sun is in a different position which causes that area to be too shady. We'll just avoid that area next winter!
A close-up shot of a few of the hoops/tunnels. You can kinda see the green through the greenhouse plastic and white row cover layers. It's so amazing to have fresh veggies with snow on the ground!
Here are carrots and some kale. The carrots are still pretty small. They are really growing slow. We've picked some of the short ones for my Grandpa and he gave them a flavor stamp of approval!
We are having a hard time with the spinach. Something happened earlier this season that yellowed the leaves. I don't know if we left the cover off and they got rained on and froze or what. But there is still lots of usable leaves that we continue to pick.
Saving the best for last, here is a beautiful broccoli sprout that Ben just took a photo of for me!
