Our motto is go big or don't bother. Books say the number one mistake of new gardeners is starting out too big. Well, that sounds like great motivation to prove them wrong. Or, we'll find out they're right and not tell anyone.
How do we know that books say what the number one mistake is? Well, we own them all. I think. Since knowledge is power and knowing is half the battle, we are trying to learn as much as we can before we start planting.
On top of that, to manage as many seeds as we have, we have to maintain spreadsheets and a calendar for when to start the seeds, the succession plantings, fall plantings, expected harvest dates, and on and on. It's been an intense learning experience to say the least!
As near as we can tell, between all the fungi, bugs and critters that want to eat or otherwise destroy your crop, it's likely a miracle that there's even food in the grocery store!
Since we don't have our garden or compost pile going yet, we've had to bring in backup. We've purchased garden soil and compost, along with perlite and coir, to make seed starting blocks. Pictures of those in action shortly.
Oh, the containers we're using are Tubtrugs. We've been impressed so far. They're food-safe, durable, and light.
