It was a looong loooong day of digging up sod! It doesn't look like that much work when you see it done, but my oh my it was. This bed is 8 feet by 3.5 feet. It is one of 11 beds that will go on this side of the yard, and one of three of this particular size. You can see where we threw the sod and extra dirt behind it. That part of the yard is about 10 inches lower back there and we need to build it up.
This is the finished bed filled with beautiful dirt and compost that was delivered earlier today. We just can't wait for us to plant something in it!... but we're going to have to be patient because a woodchuck, rabbits, a raccoon, and a herd of deer hang out nearby. As soon as we get fencing up we can plant.
The tomato plants wanted to say hi (above).... And below, remember a few weeks ago when I posted this picture of the Balsam Impatiens?
Well, just look at them now!!!
Oh, and the other night, we started more seeds. Wanna know what they were? Well, were going to tell you regardless =)
- Lemon Basil, 30 of them
- Genovese Basil, 60 of them. Mmmmm pesto!
- Purple Opal Basil, 10 of them
- Marjoram
- Oregano
- Super Bush Tomato Plants (they go in big planter pots)
- More San Marzano Tomatoes
- Aster (pretty flowers)
Wow, you two have gotten a lot done this week. Of course I'm sure you have tons left to do... oh well, it will be worth it all in the end!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a ton of work but it will totally be worth it. We're trying to put in one new bed each day so we don't wear ourselves out.

ReplyDeleteWe can start planting things that like cool weather and can tolerate frost as soon as we get the garden fenced in from deer and rabbits. =) Spinach will go in for sure!
